I experimented with adding Android support but decided against building an Android app. I understand that many people will benefit. It is simply too much work for a single developer like myself.
A small consolation: Cheap iOS devices
The original goal for GearView was - and still is: Support legacy iOS devices so you can use older iPads and iPhones.
I personally use an iPad Air 3rd generation that I got for free. Devices of this vintage are easy to find for $50 and less.
What iOS versions you can use with GearView?
GearView is written for iOS 15 and higher. That's unusual for an app that was introduced in 2024. I wanted to support the oldest devices possible without giving up commonly used iOS capabilities.
Here are iOS devices you can use:
- iPhone 6S, iPhone SE and all newer iPhones
- iPad Pro all models
- iPad Air 2, iPad 5th generation, iPad Mini 4 and all newer iPads
